Created while Holliday was at the Zaki Gordon Cinematic Arts Center but not for class credit, Red Phantom was a merger of two ideas Holliday had been itching to try: a superhero with a secret superpower, and a fight scene.
Holliday produced the entire short in one night, pulling off over 80 shots with complex choreography performed by non-professionals. It was only possible because of the intense preproduction that went into the shoot.
Preproduction involved storyboards, animatics, a live-action walkthrough, and a complete working edit before coming to set. This was also the set where Holliday completely took over catering and crafty to make it as wonderful as possible.
